Experimental quantum foundations and applications

The goal of our group is to experimentally demonstrate unique and counterintuitive phenomena of quantum physics and investigate their consequences not only for the foundation and interpretation of quantum mechanics but also for the development of potential future applications in the field of quantum communication, quantum information processing and also in biology. We therefore mainly realize novel photonic quantum states based on polarization entanglement, orbital angular momentum entanglement, Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger entanglement and various types of high-dimensional multi-particle entanglement. This is complemented with an experiment that uses Bose-Einstein-Condensates based on metastable Helium.
