Parasite publishers
Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, MDPI, ... Private companies are making huge profits on the back of public institutions ready to pay for the prestigious stamp of approval on their academic articles. Among scholars, this situation is widely perceived as problematic, if not scandalous. The publication system is currently undergoing rapid changes: publishers adapt to the open-access movement with sky-rocketing article processing charges. Scholars and politicians need to take action and promote fair alternatives. This talk is meant to expose the problems with the current scientific publishing system and to make concrete recommendations on how to change it.
