Geometric optimization of thermodynamic processes

We revise geometric tools that allow to efficiently solve the performance optimization of quantum and classical thermal machines.

One of the main ingredients is the concept of "thermodynamic length", which associates a metric structure to the set of thermal equilibrium states. The integrated length of such metric quantifies the dissipation in the limit of slow-driving of the working fluid, which allows maximization of power-efficiency tradeoffs using geometric techniques. We also show that in the opposite limit of fast-driving other mathematical tools simplify the power maximization.
