About history of physics and its use for physics itself

The typical practitioner of physics is not exposed to the history of their field very much.

Encounters mostly happen in form of commemorative speeches and anecdotes. In form of biographies of geniuses and obligatory historical outlines in introductions to books or articles. In my talk, however, I would like to introduce the history of physics as a proper field of research, as a meaningful intellectual endeavor on its own. And I will argue for reasons and ways physicists and physics itself can actually benefit from outcomes of this very enlightening endeavor.
